About Jesse

I’m a York‑based saxophonist–composer with 30 years’

experience across jazz and Indian classical/world

traditions and extensive university teaching.

My studio work focuses on embodied listening,

breath, and resonance, translating modal concepts

(including rāga thinking) into practical tone, phrasing

and improvisation skills for modern players.

What I Teach

Tone & Technique

Embouchure, breath, resonance, articulation,

altissimo basics, intonation, time feel.

Modal & Rāga Concepts

Play by ear; explore modes/scales, 22‑śruti awareness,

phrasing and drone‑based intonation.

Jazz Improvisation

Pentatonics/blues → ii‑V‑I → modal jazz;

transcription strategies; creating your own language.

World Approaches

North Indian ideas for colour and expression;

tala/time cycles; call‑and‑response training.

Creative Practice

Practice design, recording yourself, mindful listening,

performance prep and confidence.
